The Excitement of Spring

🌿 The EXCITEMENT of Spring

Ayurveda, Awakening & The Return of Light

There are two great lights that shape our year:

The deep moon of winter.

The blazing sun of summer.

Winter is lunar.

Still. Cold. Contracted. Inward.

Summer is solar.

Bright. Expansive. Radiant. Outward.

And between them…

Is spring.

Spring is not quiet.

Spring is EXCITED.

🌱 The Body Waking Up

All winter long, the body accumulates.

In Ayurveda, winter builds Kapha — the qualities of:

heaviness

moisture

density

stability

inwardness

We eat warming foods.

We rest more.

We move more slowly.

We turn inward like the moon.

This is wise.

But when the sun begins to strengthen…

The snow melts.

And what was solid becomes fluid.

In the body this melting can look like:

mucus

sinus congestion

puffiness

sluggish digestion

emotional sensitivity

restlessness

This is not dysfunction.

It is thawing.

🌿 Why Excitement Can Feel Like Anxiety

Spring energy rises.

The nervous system begins to activate.

Circulation increases.

Lymphatic flow increases.

The liver begins its seasonal clearing.

There is more motion in the body.

And motion, when new, can feel like:

anxiety

anticipation

buzzing

urgency

But often what we label as anxiety is simply excitation.

Life returning.

The sap rising in the tree.

The body remembering it is meant to move toward the sun.

🔥 Supporting the Fire

This is why spring is not about suppressing symptoms — it is about guiding them.

We add warmth to support detoxification:

hot yoga

infrared therapy

saunas

heating pads

warming, fiery curries

digestive spices (ginger, turmeric, cumin, coriander, black pepper)

Heat liquefies stagnation.

Heat assists the body in clearing what winter stored.

We are not forcing detox.

We are assisting nature.

💧 Hydration & The Gentle Return of Cool

Winter is not smoothie season for me.

Cold drinks.

Nice-cream.

Raw frozen foods.

They dampen digestion during a time when the environment is already cold and heavy.

In winter, I choose:

stews

roasted roots

warm grains

soups

But as spring unfolds and the body begins to warm, we can gently reintroduce:

hydration-rich fruits

smoothies

kombucha

lighter foods

Not abruptly.

Gradually.

In the coming weeks, cold drinks feel appropriate again — because the internal and external climates are aligning.

🌸 The Fertile Middle

Spring is the bridge between moon and sun.

Between contraction and expansion.

Between rest and radiance.

This is why it is such a powerful time to:

plant seeds

begin new rhythms

commit to ideas

clarify vision

start projects

The soil is moist.

The body is clearing.

Energy is rising.

This is not random.

It is seasonal intelligence.

🌞 The Invitation

If you feel:

excited

restless

emotional

motivated

slightly on edge

Pause and ask:

Is this anxiety…

Or is this life waking up?

Spring is not meant to feel sleepy.

It is meant to feel alive.

Support the fire.

Hydrate well.

Move your body.

Spice your food.

Sweat gently.

Begin again.

The sun is rising.

And so are you.
