❤️ The Importance of Savasana

Savasana is the most important part of the practice.
Yes — the most important.
It’s the tiny reset at the end.
The still point.
The exhale after all the effort.
From the very beginning of my yoga journey, savasana brought me back to something ancient and sweet — those little nap times in kindergarten. The lights dimmed. The room quieted. For a moment, the world stopped asking anything of you.
And then first grade comes… and you realize you never really get that again.
Until you walk into a yoga class.
And at the end — after all the asana, the stretching, the strengthening, the sweating — there is this small, sacred pause. You lie down. You close your eyes. And something reorganizes itself on a cellular level.
All that lovely asana integrates.
Your nervous system recalibrates.
Your breath deepens.
Your body absorbs what you just gave it.
But let’s be honest.
In the beginning, savasana can be the hardest part.
In the early part of my own practice, I was so tempted to hurry. I’d finish cool down and quietly start wrapping up my mat while the instructor dimmed the lights — trying to slip out unnoticed.
It felt unproductive.
Too slow.
Unnecessary.
But over time I realized… leaving before savasana is like reading a book and skipping the last chapter.
You chip off a limb of the whole.
Savasana is not an optional add-on.
It is the seal of the practice.
It is where the practice becomes yours.

## Five Ways to Remember the Importance of Savasana
### 1. Come Back to the Breath
Practice focusing on your breath and allow yourself to drift.
You don’t need to do anything.
Let the inhale arrive. Let the exhale soften you.
This is your doorway inward.
---
### 2. Everything Can Wait
Whatever needs to be done will be done.
Emails. Dinner. Laundry. Texts.
For these few minutes, it can all wait.
This time is for you.
---
### 3. Honor the Wholeness of the Practice
Savasana is part of the class — not something tacked on at the end.
When you skip it, you miss the integration.
When you stay, you receive the full arc of effort and surrender.
Get the whole practice.
---
### 4. Respect the Collective Field
When we lie in savasana together, we are in a shared space.
Each heart beating.
Each nervous system softening.
Each breath rising and falling.
We are individuals, yes — but we are also a collective consciousness in that room.
Staying honors not only your practice, but the integrity of everyone else’s.
---
### 5. Let It Awaken Curiosity
Savasana, in all its deliciousness, can awaken something deeper.
It opens the doorway to parasympathetic practices like restorative yoga, yin, yoga nidra, and meditation.
It teaches the body how to rest.
And once you taste that kind of rest… you begin to want more of it.
---
Savasana.
Isn’t that too gorgeous of a word to miss out on its essence?
It is the quiet integration.
The nervous system reset.
The cellular exhale.
And then comes the best part.
Namaste.
The kiss goodbye of the practice.
The acknowledgment that what moved through you matters.
That what moved through all of us matters.
Savasana isn’t the end.
It’s the moment the practice becomes part of who you are.
